Contemporary Art Conservator
SATENIK AESCHI
Specializing in the conservation of modern and contemporary objects and paintings, Satenik focuses on synthetic materials such as Poly (methyl methacrylate), polyester resin, polystyrene foam or acrylic paint, as well as other innovative artists' inventions. Prior to co-founding CARe-Studio Satenik was working in private Conservation Studios and Institutions for more then 10 years, such as Contemporary Conservation Ltd. in New York, Bacon Studios in Berlin or the Kunstmuseum Basel. Since 2021, she has been a professor of conservation and restoration of plastics at ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels. Satenik graduated from the Academy of fine Art Vienna, Austria with a MA in Conservation of Modern Materials and Media, where she researched materials like phenol formaldehyde and polystyrene foam or silicone rubber and presented her research at the Future Talks in Munich. Works of contemporary art not only embody a crucial expression and testimony of our time and culture, they also represent veritable and unique experiments with nontraditional material, innovative technologies, and unusual application. Conservation of contemporary art requires an investigation into these materials and to understand the fabrication process and ageing properties as well as the artists intention before considering any treatment.
